The Writing Center

The Writing Center is a great way for you to get additional feedback on your next writing assignment before you turn it in for credit. IUP students will work with you one-on-one one at any point in your writing assignment. That means you can get assistance whether you are looking for a topic, writing your first draft, revising, or citing those sources!

The Writing Center is located in Eicher Hall, Room 218.  All you have to do is walk in! The Writing Center opened another site this year at the Library. The Library Satellite is open during the evening from Sunday to Thursday.

The Writing Center is equipped with Windows computers, and each has Microsoft Word and the full Microsoft Office Suite. At only four cents per page, you can print out any papers you need for your assignment. They even have a selection of reference books, including dictionaries, grammar books, thesaurus, and the most recent versions of the MLA Handbook and APA Handbook.

Sometimes, your professors will give you credit for visiting the Writing Center. Other times, it is required.  Simply tell the tutor the name of your professor. They will send a form stating when you visited and what you worked on. Your professor will know you made an effort to improve your writing, and you leave knowing you are a step closer to a finished paper!

How it works:
1.     Sign in at the front desk
2.    Sit down at a computer
3.    A writing center tutor comes to you
4.    Ask questions and get feedback

What to bring:
·         Printed and electronic copy of your paper
·         Notes
·         Outlines
·         Rough Drafts
·         Assignment Rubric

You Belong at the Library!

Did you know the Library is actually two Libraries? That’s why the marble sign outside the Library says University Libraries-it’s not a typo! A bridge on the second floor connects the two libraries, Stabley and Stapleton.

The Library isn’t just a building full of books. There are books, and lots of them, but there are so many other resources available to you!
Need a coffee break between classes? Stop by Java City on the first floor and order your favorite coffee beverage.
Is your study group planning a meeting but doesn’t have a place to meet? Use your I-Card to reserve a study room with a dry erase board, desk, and computer.
Have a paper due in your next class but forgot to print it out? Visit the computer labs in the Library and print out your paper using one of their printers.
Do you need to read children’s books for your education class and don’t know where to find some? Go to the second floor of the library and look through the children’s collection—they have tons of children’s books and stuffed animals!
Interested in learning more about Indiana State Normal School? Look through the special collections on the third floor to learn more about IUP history through publications and photographs.
Need to find a hard copy source for your next research paper? Ask a librarian to help you find a book or article on your topic! They can even help you with citing your sources.
Working on a project for class and need a camera, a laptop, or access to a green screen? The IUP Libraries can help! Just locate the media pods or the Media Equipment Desk for rental information.

Have any additional questions about how the library can help you this semester? Stop by and see ASMs Anastasia and Andrea today, visit the IUP Libraries, or text a Librarian at (724) 401-1984.

Check out the Library today! Grab a drink from Java City, pick up a good book, and have a seat on one of the comfy new chairs!
