Spring 2013 Registration

Registration for the Spring 2014 semester starts on October 16! Here is some helpful information on registering for classes:

1. Check your registration status.

·         2. Log onto MyIUP

·         3. Select Academics, Registration, Registration Status
·         This lists the day and time that you can begin to register. You cannot register before or after this date!
While you are there, you can look over the University Wide Class Schedule to see the listing of all the courses that are being offered. This way you have an idea of what classes you might like to take before meeting with your adviser.

4. Meet with your adviser. Send them an email to find out their office hours or sign up for an appointment on their door. They will be able to help you pick out what classes are important to take next semester and give you your Alternate PIN.

5. When you go to register:
  • Log on to MyIUP with you IUP network account information
  • Click the Academics link
  • To begin the registration process, click Class Changes.
  • Select the Spring 2014 term
  • Enter your Alternate PIN.
6. Begin Searching for classes!
  • Select a subject and the appropriate campus (Indiana) by using the Advanced Search.
  • The remaining items can be used to narrow your search but are not required.
  • Scroll down the page and select Section Search.
  • The CRN is the number used to identify a particular section of a course. To register for a class, check the box in front of the CRN and select “Register” at the bottom of the classes that are listed.
7. You will then see that you are either registered for the course or you will see an error message describing why you could not register for the course. If you receive an error message, you must select a different section or a different course.

Don't Let Time Manage You!

Classes. Homework. Studying. Clubs. Activities. Sports. HOW DO YOU MANAGE IT ALL? Check out these tips for how to effectively manage your time as a college student!

Get Organized
·         Keep your desk clean and your school supplies in order
·         Buy a desk calendar or planner or use the one on your phone
·          Put your schedule on your  calendar to remember when assignments are due
Make to do lists for long-term assignments and for every day/week
·         Try something new! Test out calendars, post-its, and phone apps. You’ll be able to find out what works (and doesn’t work) for you!

Prioritize
·         “Rate” your homework items based on due date and level of difficulty
·         Set goals for both long term and short term assignments
·         Estimate the amount of time needed to finish each assignment. You can finish your assignments all on one sitting, or little-by-little over a longer period of time.
·         Leave yourself plenty of time to accomplish your tasks

Don’t overload yourself!
·         Leave time in your schedule for rest, relaxation, sleep, eating, exercise, and your friends!
·         Take study breaks to keep yourself from being worn out
·         Avoid procrastinating!
·         Know your limits. Try not to take too much on. It’s also OK to miss a club meeting every once and a while for homework and academic issues.

Study Smart
·         Study at your  desk or in a study room and make yourself comfortable
·         Split larger tasks into manageable chunks
·         Ask questions to your professors when you have questions—that’s what their office hours are for!
·         Mark important assignments in your syllabus on your calendar
·         Participate in class, arrive on time, and be prepared to learn!

Remember Why You’re Here
·         Set goals for yourself and work to achieve them!
·         Know what is important to you
·         Have a positive attitude!

Happy Birthday, MYIUP!

As many of you have seen URSA has been changed to MyIUP!  It is the center to find out what is happening on campus, your classes, and managing your accounts.  Why don’t we dive in a little more.  You sign in using your 4 letters and network password.  The home page has all the announcements and quick links to Moodle, D2L, and imail.  At the top are different tabs to different pages.  The Academics tab has everything from the academic calendar to different resources.  The next tab is Finances.  This has everything about financial aid and I-card expenses (adding flex or Crimson Cash).  Next is Campus Life!  Want to know about different events or the fitness center? Than look at this page for your answers!  The fifth tab at the top is Campus Services.  This page has links to all the services on campus.  Lastly, is the Personal Info tab.  This has all your information like passwords and your mailbox information.  I encourage you to look at this and familiarize yourself with it.  It has a lot of helpful tools to answer your questions!
