You Belong at the Library!

Did you know the Library is actually two Libraries? That’s why the marble sign outside the Library says University Libraries-it’s not a typo! A bridge on the second floor connects the two libraries, Stabley and Stapleton.

The Library isn’t just a building full of books. There are books, and lots of them, but there are so many other resources available to you!
Need a coffee break between classes? Stop by Java City on the first floor and order your favorite coffee beverage.
Is your study group planning a meeting but doesn’t have a place to meet? Use your I-Card to reserve a study room with a dry erase board, desk, and computer.
Have a paper due in your next class but forgot to print it out? Visit the computer labs in the Library and print out your paper using one of their printers.
Do you need to read children’s books for your education class and don’t know where to find some? Go to the second floor of the library and look through the children’s collection—they have tons of children’s books and stuffed animals!
Interested in learning more about Indiana State Normal School? Look through the special collections on the third floor to learn more about IUP history through publications and photographs.
Need to find a hard copy source for your next research paper? Ask a librarian to help you find a book or article on your topic! They can even help you with citing your sources.
Working on a project for class and need a camera, a laptop, or access to a green screen? The IUP Libraries can help! Just locate the media pods or the Media Equipment Desk for rental information.

Have any additional questions about how the library can help you this semester? Stop by and see ASMs Anastasia and Andrea today, visit the IUP Libraries, or text a Librarian at (724) 401-1984.

Check out the Library today! Grab a drink from Java City, pick up a good book, and have a seat on one of the comfy new chairs!

Time Management

Happy Hump Day!
I hope your first two weeks went well! We are now getting into the work of the semester. Looking at the list of reading and assignments can be daunting at times, so I am going to give you some information about time management.
Time management is one of the most important skills in college, and it’s one that most of us don’t have coming in. In high school we were told when to go to school and when to do our homework. Now that you’re away from your parents there is nobody telling you to go to class or do your homework. This new freedom is very exciting, but also very dangerous. So, here are some time management tips to help you succeed!
1.      Always go to class! Even if you’re tired, or it’s boring and you won’t be doing anything, you need to show up. Not only are you paying a lot of money to go to each class, but its valuable information. You will never know when something important will happen the day you skip class.
2.      Get a planner. All the syllabi have a list of when assignments are due, but this can get a little confusing. Buy a planner, and write down when all of your assignments are due. This small purchase will make your life much less stressful!
3.      Don’t procrastinate! Of you know you have work to do, DO IT! Don’t continue to put it off, you will get to a point where you have so much due in every class you don’t even know where to begin.
4.    Start projects when they are assigned. Your professors will assign big projects at the beginning of the semester. Don’t wait until the night before to start it. There may be research or time consuming steps, you don’t want to try to cram it all in the night before. This will guarantee your best work goes in, and much less stress for you!
5.      Be on time. Show up to class five minutes early to get yourself situated when class begins. Also, be on time with your assignments. Professors will deduct points for late assignments. Don’t get a C on an assignment that deserves an A because you didn’t turn it in on time.
These are just some ideas to help you. If you have any questions or need any help with time management please stop by the ASM office for help.
Have a great week!
